The Belgian section of the environmental organisation Greenpeace has been fined following a protest at Doel power station in East Flanders.
The protest was staged six years ago. In the process demonstrators damaged the fence around the nuclear power plant.
Electricity generator Electrabel had taken Greenpeace to court seeking compensation.
Greenpeace did not deny the facts, but asked to be acquitted.
Dendermonde magistrates fined the organisation 1,500 euros and Greenpeace will also have to compensate the damage.
Commentators say this is a relatively small fine.
Greenpeace is pleased that the judge did not award any moral damages.
The organisation claims Electrabel is trying to silence a critical voice.
