MADRID, May 6 (Reuters) - Spain's 1,000-megawatt Trillo nuclear power station was reconnected to the national grid on Tuesday morning after completing refuelling work, a statement from the plant's management said.
MADRID, March 25 (Reuters) - Iberian power prices declined on Tuesday as temperatures rose after an unseasonable cold snap and a nuclear power plant came back on stream, traders said.
The 1,000-megawatt Trillo plant near Madrid was automatically disconnected from the national grid on Monday afternoon due to a sudden drop in power while water tanks were being cleaned.
The Spanish government plans to open tenders for purchase of land at three sites for nuclear power plants that never operated, a spokesman at the Ministry of Industry, Trade & Tourism said May 9. The plants fell victim to the country's 1984 nuclear construction moratorium.
On 1999/01/28 the licensee noticed that several penetrations of the Reactor Building (RB) were not properly sealed, so that there was some communication between the annulus (space between metallic spherical containment - housing the reactor coolant system - and the reactor building) and the environment.
The licensee had been opening up some RB penetrations since August 1998 in order to lay some cables in the framework of a design modification aimed to upgrade the electrical system.
On 31 January during the investigation of a minor event the staff of Trillo NPP detected a design error in the level instrumentation in the annulus outside the containment sphere (between the sphere and the containment building, 3 out of 4 sumps). This error would have affected the actuation of Residual Heat Removal System (RHR) during a small LOCA, in the recirculation phase. Because of the particular design of Trillo (KWU) this deficiency in 3 sumps would have resulted in inadequate safety function of RHR during a small LOCA.
