Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation has presented to the Energy Ministry its vision of the scenarios of Russia's nuclear development depending on how the financial crisis unfolds, the state corporation's deputy chief Alexander Lokshin told RBC today. He explained that the move had been made at the request of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, adding that other ministries and agencies were also required to submit their forecasts. The information is to be reviewed at a meeting of a commission headed by Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov.

French strike cuts 5,000 MW of power capacity-union
Tuesday, November 25, 2008PARIS, Nov 25 (Reuters) - French energy strikers cut a total of 4,000 megawatts of nuclear capacity and 1,000 MW of thermal capacity since Monday night, an official at the CGT union told Reuters on Tuesday.
French strikers are holding a 24-hour strike to protest against salaries and pensions.
"The strike has cut a total of 5,000 MW, this is a very positive outcome for us," the union official said, adding that strikers had been warned by EDF not to cut more capacity to avoid endangering the supply/demand balance.

Slovenske Elektrarne Director General Paolo Ruzzini and TVEL President Yuri Olenin are signatories to the document. The ceremony took place at the TVEL Machine-Building Plant.
Russia to increase uranium production

Romania to sign nuclear power deal
Wednesday, November 19, 2008SOFIA, Nov 18 (Reuters) - Romania is due to sign a deal with selected foreign bidders to build two more reactors at its nuclear power plant in Cernavoda on Nov. 20, one of the investors, GDF Suez, said on Tuesday. Earlier this year, the Balkan country decided to retain a 51 percent stake in the planned reactors and leave the remaining 49 percent for the six bidders it chose last year as partners.
The partners are Belgian Electrabel, owned by French power giant GDF Suez, German power giant RWE, Czech utility CEZ, Italy's Enel, Spain's Iberdrola and a Romanian unit of steel giant ArcelorMittal.

GDF Suez still eyes Bulgaria nuclear power project

The Bulgarian government last month chose RWE to become a strategic partner for a 49 percent stake in the planned Belene plant and gave the option to split the stake with the second-listed bidder, Belgian Electrabel, owned by GDF Suez.
