Controversial German writer and television presenter Charlotte Roche has offered to have sex with German president Christian Wulff if he blocks legislation to extend the operating lives of the country's nuclear power plants. In an interview with Der Spiegel magazine, the 32-year-old anti-nuclear activist said: "I am offering to sleep with him if he does not sign the legislation."
She added, "My husband agrees. Now it is up to the First Lady to give her consent."
In late October, the Bundestag – the lower house of the German parliament – voted in favour of two amendments to the country's Atomic Energy Act that will see the country's 17 reactors operate for an average of 12 years longer. The government decided that the new legislation does not need approval by the upper house (the Bundesrat) and forwarded it to Wulff for signing into law. He has until the end of 2010 to do so. Wulff has not yet indicated whether he will be taking up Roche's offer.
