RWE to restart Biblis nuclear reactor after receiving approval

Sunday, February 10, 2008

ESSEN, Germany (Thomson Financial) - RWE AG said it is restarting block A of its Biblis nuclear plant after being shut down for one and a half years due to technical faults.

German utility RWE on Friday received approval from the German state of Hesse, where Biblis is situated, to restart the reactor and the company has initiated a programme to resume power production, an RWE spokesman said.

Both blocks A and B of the power plant had to be taken off the grid in Oct 2006 after faulty screw anchors that held piping and other parts in place were detected. Block B was restarted in early December.
