More then thirty years of debate, and the controversy remains as polarised as ever. This website (to be fair - whose maintainer is anti-nuclear) collects news about nuclear power in Europe, sorted by nuclear power plant, type of power plant, country etc.

By presenting different (media) angles on current nuclear issues, we hope to be able to cut out some spin, either pro or against, and to allow the reader to make up his or her own mind about today's pro's and con's of nuclear power.

Germany sits alone in G8 on nuclear power

Germany will be the last of the world’s eight leading industrial nations to oppose the use of nuclear power as a clean and durable alternative to coal and gas when G8 leaders meet in Hokkaido, Japan, next Thursday.

With Italy having joined the pro-nuclear camp since the election of Silvio Berlusconi, Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, will now face seven opponents in her effort to water-down a final communiqué that is set to name nuclear power as a prime weapon in the fight against climate change.

European renewables lobby sues commission over Finnish nuke

Greenpeace Finland said in a statement Monday that Brussels-based lobby the European Renewable Energies Federation had brought an action before the European Court of Justice challenging the European commission's September 2007 declaration that a 570-million-euro guarantee granted by Coface, a privatised company that continues to act in its eponymous role as the French government's export guarantee agency, to Finnish utility Teollisuuden Voima (TVO) did not constitute illegal state aid.

EnBW's Philippsburg Unit-2 Offline for Maintenance, Systems Upgrade

German electricity generator EnBW has reported that Unit-2 of its Philippsburg nuclear power plant has been taken offline for maintenance and technical upgrade.

EnBW has said that extensive inspection and maintenance work will be carried out on the unit, and technical projects will be implemented to ensure that the plant is up to date with the latest technical developments.

Kola NPP marks 35 years anniversary

On June 27th, 1973, reactor No. 1 at the first nuclear power plant ever built north of the Arctic Circle was started. It was designed for a life-time of 30 years, but is still in operation.

Later in the 70ties and early 80 another three reactors was put into operation at the Kola nuclear power plant (Kola NPP).

MADRID (AFP) — Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said Saturday he would not extend the life of Spain's ageing nuclear plants as he repeated his government's commitment to phasing out nuclear power.

"We are committed to respecting the normal life-span of the plants unless there are urgent energy needs, and to not building new nuclear plants," he said in an interview with top-selling daily El Pais.

Britain to sign nuclear pact with Jordan this week

Britain will sign a nuclear deal this week with Jordan, which is struggling to find alternate resources to generate electricity and desalinate water, the British Embassy said Wednesday.

The head of the UK Atomic Energy Authority, Barbara Thomas Judge, will arrive Saturday in Amman on a two-day visit to sign a "nuclear cooperation" agreement.
