More then thirty years of debate, and the controversy remains as polarised as ever. This website (to be fair - whose maintainer is anti-nuclear) collects news about nuclear power in Europe, sorted by nuclear power plant, type of power plant, country etc.

By presenting different (media) angles on current nuclear issues, we hope to be able to cut out some spin, either pro or against, and to allow the reader to make up his or her own mind about today's pro's and con's of nuclear power.

German nuclear waste finally reaches storage site

DANNENBERG, Germany -- A shipment of nuclear waste from France reached a storage facility in northwestern Germany on Tuesday after police worked through the night to clear a road blockade by over 3,000 protesters.

For nearly four days, anti-nuclear protesters have rappelled from bridges, undermined roads, and formed human shields across the shipment's route in an attempt to slow it down. A shepherdess even herded 500 sheep and some 60 goats across the road Monday between Dannenberg - where the shipment was offloaded from train cars onto trucks - and Gorleben in a bid to slow it down.

Cernavoda nuclear project stakes decision delayed for 2011

The Romanian state will take a decision in 2011 on the make-up of the company set to construct two new nuclear reactors in Romania’s existing site in Cernavoda, Constanta county, Minister of Economy Ion Ariton told The Diplomat

This will further delay the development of the four billion Euro, 1,500 MW power plant development and is likely to contribute to pushing back its commissioning date of 2015 to 2017 at the earliest.

Europe eyes deep disposal for nuclear waste problem

A leaked European Commission draft report says Europe should solve the problem of handling nuclear waste by making industry pay to stash it deep underground, where it will be overseen by independent watchdogs.

"The current situation of spent fuel and radioactive waste management in EU member states is not satisfactory," says the draft, seen by Reuters Thursday.

EU to propose burying nuclear waste as safest option

The European Commission will promote underground storage as the safest option for storing nuclear waste, according to a leaked proposal which has already irked environmentalists.

The draft directive seeks to set up an EU framework for managing used fuel and radioactive waste which is generated by nuclear power plants but also medicine and industry, among others.

German nuclear tax weighs on utilities' credit ratings

When Germany announced its plan to phase out nuclear power stations last month, shares in the big four German power companies rose. The agreement made with the German government would see Eon, RWE, EnBW and Vattenfall pay a nuclear-fuel rods tax of EUR2.3bn until 2016 - but the market had been expecting worse.

But today Moody's has warned that the impact of the tax might yet force a downgrade of the companies' credit ratings.

Utilities to issue warning on carbon price

Britain’s “big six” energy companies will this week warn Chris Huhne, secretary of state for energy, that the government’s proposed “floor price” for carbon emission permits is not enough of an incentive for them to invest in new nuclear power stations.

Executives from the companies, including Centrica, EDF Energy and Scottish Power, now owned by Iberdrola, are due to make their views clear at a dinner with Mr Huhne on Wednesday.

Former Supreme Court judge banned from entering Ratnagiri

MUMBAI: Retired supreme court judge P B Samant, former admiral L Ramdas, retd high court judge B G Kolse-Patil and Vaishali Patil, the Medha Patkar of Konkan, are among those who have been banned from entering Ratnagiri district in view of the 'jail bharo' agitation on October 29 at Jaitapur, where India's biggest nuclear power plant (10,000 MW) is to come up.
