More then thirty years of debate, and the controversy remains as polarised as ever. This website (to be fair - whose maintainer is anti-nuclear) collects news about nuclear power in Europe, sorted by nuclear power plant, type of power plant, country etc.
By presenting different (media) angles on current nuclear issues, we hope to be able to cut out some spin, either pro or against, and to allow the reader to make up his or her own mind about today's pro's and con's of nuclear power.

Poland seeks nuclear sites
Wednesday, November 12, 2008WARSAW, Poland, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said so far, no suitable sites for planned nuclear plants have been found.
"I hope that by the end of next year we will make related decisions. For starters, we plan to construct two nuclear plants. As we can see, states sure of their energy security run not two or five but 30, 40 and 50 nuclear plants," Tusk told the Polish Press Agency.
Czech CEZ hopes crisis will stall EU climate package
Tuesday, November 11, 2008PRAGUE (AFP) — Central Europe's top power producer, Czech-based CEZ, is pinning hopes on the financial crisis to thwart the approval of the EU's green package, saying it would hit hard at the region's coal-dependent industry.
The EU's climate-energy package seeks to raise the share of renewable sources in power production by 2020, boost energy savings and tighten the rules for trading in CO2 emission permits in a bid to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Schools given a store of anti-radiation pills
Sunday, November 9, 2008Thousands of anti-radiation pills have been handed out to schools in Portsmouth and Gosport for the visit of a French nuclear sub.
Potassium iodate tablets are being held at schools within a 2km area of Portsmouth Naval Base in the event of a nuclear reactor meltdown.
The 113,000 pills – given out every time a nuclear sub visits the city –are designed to stop radiation from being absorbed by the thyroid gland.
Thousands in Germany protest nuclear transport
Sunday, November 9, 2008BERLIN (AP) — Almost 15,000 anti-nuclear demonstrators protested Saturday against a shipment of reprocessed nuclear waste being transported to a storage site in northern Germany, police said.
German police were working to free three demonstrators who had chained themselves to railway tracks near the western city of Woerth, preventing the shipment from crossing from France into Germany.
No Safety Violations Found at Mayak Atomic Plant

Nov 6 (Interfax) - The Federal Technological, Environmental and Atomic Supervisory Service has completed an inspection of the Mayak plant based in Russia's Chelyabinsk region. No violations of nuclear, radiation and technological safety have been exposed, the service said.
The inspectors verified control over nuclear materials, radioactive substances and waste and physical protection of the plant.
Belene equipment ordered with Bulgaria own funds

The signing of the shareholding contract for Belene nuclear power plant through which German company RWE will gain 49% of the future plant's stakes, was postponed. Instead of end-October 2008 when the last deadline expired, the paper will most likely be endorsed in December 2008, the project's main investor National Electricity Company (NEC) said, The Banker Weekly reported.
France reassures on cleanness of nuclear sites
Sunday, November 9, 2008PARIS (Reuters) - Tests on water tables under French nuclear sites, after a major uranium leak in the south earlier this year, showed there were no significant environmental or health dangers, a government committee said on Friday.
Plant operator Areva said in July that 30 cubic meters of liquid containing non-enriched uranium was accidentally poured onto the ground and into a river at the Tricastin nuclear site in southeastern France.
