More then thirty years of debate, and the controversy remains as polarised as ever. This website (to be fair - whose maintainer is anti-nuclear) collects news about nuclear power in Europe, sorted by nuclear power plant, type of power plant, country etc.

By presenting different (media) angles on current nuclear issues, we hope to be able to cut out some spin, either pro or against, and to allow the reader to make up his or her own mind about today's pro's and con's of nuclear power.

Spain's 1,000 MW Trillo nuclear plant back on line

MADRID, May 6 (Reuters) - Spain's 1,000-megawatt Trillo nuclear power station was reconnected to the national grid on Tuesday morning after completing refuelling work, a statement from the plant's management said.

Nuclear reactors will cost twice estimate, says E.ON chief

The Government has vastly underestimated the cost of building a new generation of nuclear power plants, according to the head of the world's largest power company.

Wulf Bernotat, chairman and chief executive of E.ON, the German energy giant that owns Powergen, has told The Times that the cost per plant could be as high as €6 billion (£4.8 billion) - nearly double the Government's latest £2.8 billion estimate.

Afghan 'health link' to uranium

Some scientists say the rise is linked to use of weapons containing depleted uranium (DU) by the US-led coalition that invaded the country in 2001.

British Energy bidding war hopes recede

Hopes of a bidding war for British Energy were dealt a blow yesterday after it became clear that Vattenfall, Suez and Eon were not planning to bid for the UK nuclear group.

This leaves RWE of Germany and France's EDF as the most likely bidders for the UK government's 35 per cent stake in British Energy before the deadline of Friday, May 9. Both companies - which have power generation operations in the UK - declined to comment.

For two years one of the main world federations for environment protection “Friends of the Earth” leads a campaign for higher responsibility of the banks when funding infrastructural projects.

The French branch of this non-governmental organisation is now criticizing strongly the decision of the French bank BNP Paribas to organize the financing of the project for nuclear energy in Belene, Bulgaria, writes the French newspaper “Mond”, cited by BTA.
