Rosatom woos EU with guaranteed low electricity price

An official of Russian state nuclear firm Rosatom told a Brussels audience that his company could guarantee a levelized price for electricity of $50/MWh from new nuclear plants it builds, if the client chooses the firm's services for their lifecycle. According to EU policies, however, fuel supply should be diversified.

Speaking at an event organised by New Nuclear Watch Europe, Kirill Komarov, First Deputy CEO of Rosatom, said that his company was the only one able to guarantee a low price for electricity, if European countries chose the full package of its services.

Bulgaria signs nuclear deal with Westinghouse

SOFIA, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Bulgaria, one of five EU states that depend totally on Russia for nuclear fuel, and Westinghouse Electric Company signed a shareholder agreement on Friday paving the way for construction of a new nuclear reactor estimated to cost $5 billion.

The deal, which still requires the approval of Bulgaria's next government, will help the Balkan country reduce its energy dependence on Russia at a time of increased tensions between Moscow and the European Union over Ukraine.

Emergency shutdown at Bulgaria nuclear plant after hydrogen leak in cooling system

SOFIA, Bulgaria — Officials say a turbo generator at Bulgaria’s only nuclear power station has been shut down due to a hydrogen leak in its cooling system but insist there is no danger to the public.

A statement Monday from the Kozloduy power plant said the component that was shut down was part of its conventional, non-nuclear unit. It said “there were no changes in the radioactivity level at the plant.”

Lithuania's prime minister says ending support in 2020 could delay the full closure of its Ignalina plant.

Leaders of the European Union's member states are expected at their summit next week (7-8 February) to agree to cover roughly half the costs of decommissioning Soviet-era nuclear power plants, as part of a deal on the EU's long-term budget.

EIA Launched for Unit 7 of Bulgaria's Kozloduy NPP

Project company Kozloduy NPP New Capacities signed Monday a contract for an environmental impact assessment (EIA) of the investment proposal for the construction of new nuclear capacity at the site of the Bulgarian N-plant.

The EIA report is to be prepared by the Bulgarian-Spanish consortium Dicon-Acciona Engineering, which won a tender.

NPP Kozloduy High Pressure Heaters to Be Tested

The management of Bulgaria's NPP Kozloduy has required a certificate of quality of the metal, of which the two high pressure heaters recently installed at power units five and six are made. This has become clear from a statement of NPP Kozloduy CEO Alexander Nikolov. The two heaters cost 29 million euros.

The nuclear plant's management has sent letters to the manufacturer, OAO ZiO-Podolsk, and the supplier, Atomtoploproekt, in which they insist on being provided with extra information regarding the control on the parts' manufacturing.

Kozloduy Unit 6 incident poses no risk to people and energy system

The incident at Unit 6 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant poses no risk to people's health or to the energy system, Economy, Energy and Tourism Minister Traicho Traikov told journalists on Tuesday.Traikov ruled out radiation risk or any other risk to people's health at the power plant.

Romania Wants to Export Electricity to Bulgaria

Romania could export more electricity to Bulgaria, according to Adrian Baiscusi, general manager of Romanian power grid operator Transelectrica (TEL).

Baicusi has stated, as cited by Act Media, that as a result of Turkey joining the European electricity network (UCTE) in September, Romania should have opportunities to export
energy to the south.

Two former MPs deny uncertified nuclear fuel bought for Kozloduy NPP

Sofia. It is impossible to buy uncertified nuclear fuel for Kozloduy NPP. I am certain about that, Ivan Grizanov, former MP and former chief of the Board of Directors of Kozloduy NPP, told FOCUS News Agency He was asked to comment on the protest staged by the Bulgarian nuclear physicist Georgi Kotev in Schuman square in Brussels.

"This is impossible. I think there have been enough explanations about the issue and nobody can do this. There is control and given technical fuel parameters. It is impossible to buy uncertified fuel. I am certain about that," he said.

Bulgaria nuke plant capacity drops after fault

SOFIA June 30 (Reuters) - The capacity of a 1,000-megawatt reactor at Bulgaria's nuclear plant Kozloduy dropped to 60 percent following the automatic shutdown of one of its pumps, the plant said in a statement late on Tuesday.
