ERF description: On May 16th, 2004, a fire has started at about 12:15 in an equipment room containing electrical cables on the unit 2 of Cattenom NPP located in the French Moselle department.
EDF has triggered the on-site emergency plan and has shut down the unit 2. Firemen have intervened and have considered the fire extinguished at 14:25.
There is no people injured nor consequence to the environment.
As a precautionary measure, the Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) has activated its emergency centre and its representatives have gone to the Moselle Prefecture and to the NPP site.
The situation being completely under control, the ASN emergency centre was deactivated at 18:00.
This event is rated at INES level 1.
