Leakages of water from the dikes in tank areas storing contaminated water

TEPCO found that leakages of water accumulated in the dikes due to rainfall in 4 areas storing contaminated water at Fukushima Daiichi NPS between 9 and 14 September 2015.
The dikes are installed in order to prevent contaminated water from spreading in case a leakage from the tanks would occur. The water levels of tanks in each of the 4 areas show no change, suggesting there are no leakage from the tanks.
There was no effect on the ocean throughout this incident.
- At tank areas H5 and C, the concentration of radionuclides in the leaked water was lower than the water flowing through the drainage channels B and C during rainfall.
- At tank areas H6 and H4 North, water discharge valves had been closed, so the leaked water did not flow into the drainage channels.
