Anti-nuclear Irene protests

Friday, July 25, 2008

A VETERAN anti-nuclear weapons protester has chained herself to the gates of a nuclear power station.

Irene Willis, 62, from Buckland, Shoebury, was one of eight environmental activists protesting outside Sizewell nuclear power station in Suffolk.

They are protesting about the risks to health and safety from nuclear power stations and the nuclear fuel cycle.

The demonstration is about the environmental impact of nuclear reactors and uranium mining.

Miss Willis has been on other protests in the past, including blockading a Scottish naval base where Trident submarines are based.

This time she was dressed as a health and safety inspector and chained across the road that is the only access to the site.
